Chilling and suspenseful, you will assume you are reading about Vanessa, heartbroken and constantly drunk, stalking her ex husbands new girlfriend. Fueled by jealousy and rage, you may worry of what Vanessa will do.
Nellie is young and naive. A preschool teacher, she adores all things and seems to pure and innocent for NYC. Of course Richard, Vanessa's ex husband, fell head over heels in love with her. Nellie is constantly afraid though- she always has the sensation someone is watching her, following her. She gets phone calls from blocked numbers with nothing but breathing on the other end.
What do these two women have in common, besides their mutual love for Richard, exhusband to one, future husband to the other? So much more than you'll expect.
The fact is, everyone has secrets they'd like to keep hidden. Those secrets have a way of coming out though, especially when you'd like them to least.
While some of the twists in this bok are less surprising, others make you grip the edge of your seat. If you are looking for a book to get lost into, this is the one for you.
Such a beautifully written yet heartbreaking story. Set in two time-lines, the first being of young Sarah in WW2 era France, and the second being modern day Julia. The story intertwines both Sarah's and Julia's stories, which are both moving and heartbreaking. Sarah and her family are arrested by Nazi's and taken away from their home, but only for a few hours they are told. Sarah locks her younger brother in a secret cupboard in her bedroom to keep him safe. She promises to return soon and let him out. Julia is a reporter and writing a story on the anniverary on the arrests of french citizens and their eventual turn-over to german nazi's and concentration camps. Sarah will do anything to get back to her bedroom to let her brother out of the cupboard, and Julia will do anything to find out the details of Sarah's story and what eventually happened to her. Disclaimer, this book WILL make you shed quite a few tears.
This book was such a delightful read! One I just could not put down. Told from the Point of View of Thursday, the book starts off by telling of how she has settled in her life. Sure, she has the beautiful apartment, filled with beautiful things. She is educated, beautiful (although never the most beautiful girl in the room, as her mother has always reminded her) and she has the sweet, handsome, and hardworking husband Seth at her side. Or does she? Thursday reflects upon her agreement with Seth, at first determined to keep the peace, and make peace with it as well. Can Thursday really cope of being his wife, but only one of three? And Seth has rules. He maintains 3 separate households, one with each wife. She doesnt even know their names. She knows nothing about the other women that her husband spends his life with. Sure, she is his "legal" wife, as in she is the one hes married to on paper. However, when his newest and youngest wife becomes pregnant, Seth spends more and more time with her, and less and less with Thursday. Thursday decides she MUST atleast see this new wife, make sure she is good. With a little snooping, she meets the mysterious 3rd wife. Thursday is shocked at just how gorgeous she is, and can't help but think "SO thats why my husband rushed off to claim her, she could be a model." Thursday hatches a plan to not only have seen her, she won't be satisfied until they are in fact friends. It doesn't take long for things to spin dangerously out of control.

Alison Weir does such an amzing job weaving the story of Lady Jane Grey. Used as a pawn by her power hungry parents, Lady Jane Grey must go against everything she wants for herself and do as everyone wants of her, even fearing for her own life in doing so.
This exciting tale takes place in 9th centurary England, and the Danes are attacking. Young Uhtred is kidnapped by the pagan Danes, and his father is slaughtered. He is taken as a slave, but even as a slave is shown more love than he had in his ancestral home of Bebbanburg. Ragnor, his master, decides to adopt Uhtred formally. Now he is Uhtred Ragnarson. He is sent to fight, and goes up against his own countrymen. Uhtred is torn, is he a Dane, or is he English? When disaster strikes and Ragnar is murdered, Uhtred is cast aside by most of the Danes. He has been blamed for the murder of his adoptive father, and with angry Danes at his back, looking for revenge, he runs back to the English. In turn, the English do not trust the young saxon boy who, in their eyes, turned his back on his country, his king, and their god. Every choice Uhtred makes greatly shapes him, and his life. Where will he turn? Will he once again become an Englishman, and lay claim to the Bebbanburg throne? Or will he return to the Danes, who raised him?
This is such an adorable book! I highly reccomend this as a light read that will make you smile.
Lara Jean is a sweet, and shy, highschooler who feels a bit lost after her older sister, Margot, leaves for college. Margot had taken care of their dad, Lara Jean, and their younger sister Kitty since their mom had passed away years prior. Lara Jean doesn't exactly fit in at school, a fact that her ex best friend Gen makes sure she remembers at every chance. When five letters get sent out, letters that were never supposed to be seen by anyone, Lara Jean doesn't know how to handle it. One letter went to Gen's ex, Peter. Another letter went to Margot's ex, Josh. Terrified that Margot will hear of the letter, and learn that Lara Jean had been in love with Josh since before they had gotten together. Peter wants to make Gen jealous, so he and Lara Jean come up with a plan. They pretend to date. Where do pretend feelings end and real feelings begin though?
If you are like me, you have seen the movie, and I loved the movie. (To be honest, I love just about any movie with Emma Stone in it) When I saw this book on the shelf, I kid you not, I squealed. I read this entire book in 2 day, it was gripping. The characters came to life. I felt like I personally knew Skeeter, Hilly, Minny. I did not want this book to end, I wanted to read on and on. So if you are looking for a good read to lose yourself into, I cannot recommend this book any more highly.

Friday Night Knitting Club

My son, who is a very bright little six year old, adores this book. We read this together, (okay, I read it to him as he exclaimed with glee at all the funny words in the book).Reading this every night became our bedtime ritual. My little one couldn't wait to brush his teeth and take his bath so he could hear what happened next to Sophie or the BFG. He was always wondering if the other giants were going to catch them, or if Sophie would ever get to go home. (Cause little kids can't live with Giants mom, they just can't! They don't even have fruit snacks I bet!) I rember my 1st or 2nd grade teacher reading this out loud to my class when I was young. Its such a classic tale of friendship and acceptance, and little ones truly love this story.
One of the first books I bought after getting the job here at Winterriver was Geisha of Gion (The UK version of Geisha: A Life). Growing up, I loved watching the movie, Memiors of a Geisha, which isloosely based off of Mineko Iwasaki's life.
In her autobiography, Mineko Iwasaki goes into depth and detail to describe her life as a geisha, or Geiko, and what it meant for her. She talks about the isolation she felt, and how she used that feeling to strive to be the best. That is what she acheived. Mineko Iwasaki is known as Japan's Greatest Geisha. Her book details her life in such a fascinating and interesting turn of events, and how each of those events shaped her future and career.
First off, let me just say how cute Pete the Cat is. My son adores Pete and says that this is his all time favorite book. He is five, and these little "I Can Read!" books that we have, have been helping him immensely.
This cute little story book tells the story of Pete's family outing to the beach, and how his older brother helps him learn to surf. Even though pete doesn't get it the first time, he tries again and overcomes his fear, and ends up having a lot of fun!
Oh no! Pete the cat has made too much for lunch! In this adorable children's book, Pete decides rather than be wasteful, he would like to share with his friends.
Dark and chilling, VC Andrews doesn't disappoint readers. Young Corrine Dixon is quite taken by Garland Foxworth. He's not like other boys, quite frankly, because he is not a boy at all. At the young age of 21 (or so he says) Garland has accomplished so much. He has travelled the world, owns a grand mansion that resembles a castle, and has his own servants. To say that Mister Garland Foxworth is wealthy would be a gross understatement. Likewise, Garland seems just as interested in Corrine, but is he? He sends messengers to break off their plans, numerous times. He talks of his mansion like it is a living, breathing person who can understand and talk back. Is it just Corrine, or are the servants plotting with Garland? Plotting what? Desperate to break free from her overbearing mother, and fall head over heels in love, how many red flags will young Corrine ignore? This dark and twisted tale will have your heart ache while also having you on the edge of your seat, desperate to drink in its pages.
I could not put this book down! I love when books have my brain racing, trying to figure out who the bad guy is.
Abigail is overjoyed to be getting married to Bruce. He is kind, generous, charming, and intelligent. Did I mention he is also filthy rich?
At all all expense paid for bachelorette weekend getaway with all her friends, (all paid for by Bruce, of course) Abigail meets a handsome and mysterious stranger and things get too heated. Having doubts about her upcoming wedding, and guilt from what happened, Abigail pushes forward determined to forget that weekend ever happened.
When she can't seem to stop running into the handsome stranger (she doesn't even know his name!) and then he even shows up on the private island that her and Bruce are honeymooning at, can she really just keep brushing it off as coincidence? Are they stra struck lovers, destined to be together, or is there a darker, more sinister reasoning of why they keep crossing paths?
This book has so many twists and turns, by the end of the book I had no idea what to expect and I loved it. If you are looking for a book that is not predictable and will keep you on your toes, look no further.
